There are currently 1,545,120,365 overweight people in the world – are you one of them?
I guess I can quite safely assume that if you’re reading this article you want to lose weight. I would also hazard a guess that you have been anxiously looking for “weight loss tips”, and perhaps this is how you found your way here today. If the truth be told, most people actually know what they need to do to lose weight, although there is far less attention given to what you shouldn’t do. Therefore, in today’s article I would like to introduce you to the 7 biggest weight loss mistakes.
1) A negative attitude – if you’re the type of person who believes that there is no way that you will lose weight, and indeed be able to keep it off, the likelihood is that you’re right. A defeatist attitude will kill your motivation before you have even begun.
2) The belief that you can eat cabbage soup for the rest of your life – I’m sure you’ve come across many fad diets in your time, however, many of these diets recommend a nutritional plan that is impossible to follow. Sure, if you decide to eat cabbage soup every day for the next month, you will lose weight. With that said, the damage that this may do to your internal organs and your motivation may affect you for many years to come.
3) Not drinking enough water – we hear it all the time, but still millions of overweight people tend to ignore this advice. Water is in fact the only thing that you will ever need to drink, and it is recommended that you should aim to drink at least 64 ounces a day.
4) Finishing every single last morsel of food on your plate – I know mother always said you should clean your plate, however, I’m quite happy to let the dishwasher do this. How often do you finish every last bite of your meal, even after you are full? Surely, you don’t need a nutritional expert to tell you that this is simply asking for trouble.
5) Starving yourself – if you know anything about weight loss, you will know that firing up your metabolism is the best way to lose weight and burn fat. Unfortunately, by starving yourself throughout the day you will typically find that when you finally get round to eating, it is more often than not something unhealthy. Rather than being burned as energy now, this food will be stored as energy later, and not only will this mess up your metabolism, it is also likely to be stored in your body as fat.
6) Watching too much television – how many of you watch more sport than you participate in? How many of you sit or lie in front of the television with a snack and fizzy drink close by? I’m here to tell you that spending too much time in front of the television is likely to add inches to your waist, bum, thighs, hips, chin…and the list goes on.
7) Believing that going on a dieting spree, as opposed to a total lifestyle change, will give you the weight loss results you desire – weight loss is about making lasting changes in your life. If you honestly believe that you merely need a few weeks or months on a particular diet in order to lose weight, I can guarantee that that lost weight will soon come back and haunt you.
You will, without doubt, find various weight loss tips online, but you should ignore these 7 weight loss mistakes at your own peril. That’s all for today, but I look forward to sharing some more tips and advice with you next week. Until then let’s see how many of these mistakes you can cut out your life for good.
