The Low GI Diet Plan, otherwise known as the Glycemic diet plan, is best for people who suffer from diabetes. The special feature of this diet plan is that it concentrates more on life style changes rather than an actual weight loss program such as the Medifast Diet Plan.
The Low GI diet plan comes highly recommended by medical doctors as the safest and most effective way to lose weight and puts its importance around the type of food you eat and eating at the proper times rather than calorie restrictions.
The basic idea behind this diet plan is that we need to digest sugar as well as fat as they are important nutrients required by the body to carry out our daily activities. When we eat foods that are high in sugar the body will start producing insulin which regulates your blood sugar level. This causes more fat to be stored in your body. With a Low GI diet plan the carbohydrates raise the level of blood sugar gradually reducing the requirement for the body to store the energy as fat. Food that contains a GI over 70 will raise the level of blood sugar in your body quickly causing an accumulation of fat in the body. The whole idea behind this diet plan is that you have to include those foods in your diet that have a low Gylcemic number that is less than 70 but ideally less than 55.
This doesn’t mean that you are bound to eat only specific foods but you need to make sure to focus on combining foods of different levels in order to maintain a balance and get a variety in your diet plan.
